About Me

Hi! I’m Janine. I’m currently a sophomore at Brown University, tentatively double concentrating in Business Economics and Philosophy. The humanities—especially English and literature—have always been close to my heart, and tutoring honestly grew pretty naturally out of that. I’ve always loved reading, writing, and thinking deeply about things, and I really enjoy helping other people learn how to do that in ways that feel more natural to them too.

At Brown, I’ve worked with younger students through a campus club, and outside of that, I’ve somehow become the go-to editor for my friends and family—college application essays, personal statements, random late-night “can you read this for me” drafts, you name it. I genuinely love helping people clarify what they’re trying to say and feel more confident putting their thoughts into words.

In high school, I earned 5s on both AP English Language and AP English Literature (along with AP Research, AP U.S. History, and AP Human Geography), and I scored a 36 on ACT English and a 34 on ACT Reading. But more than test scores, I’ve always just loved reading for fun. I’m one of those people who always has a book in their bag, and once I’ve read over 50 books in a year.

My gap year in 2024–2025 was a big turning point for me. It gave me space to slow down, think more intentionally about how I learn, and spend more time working one-on-one with students. That’s also when I realized how much I care about the process of learning—not just the outcomes. My approach to tutoring is very collaborative and personalized. I care a lot about understanding how a student’s mind works, what motivates them, and what makes school feel frustrating or overwhelming, so we can build something that actually feels sustainable for them.

I’m very organized and intentional about how I structure sessions, but I also believe learning works best when it doesn’t feel stiff or intimidating. I want sessions to feel supportive, focused, and engaging—like a space where it’s okay to struggle, ask questions, and slowly build confidence.

If you’re looking for a tutor who’s approachable, thoughtful, and genuinely invested in your growth, I’d love to work together!

Sincerely,

Janine
